Time
Did you find yourself humming along right away? Then you might not be the youngest anymore. Yet it was only yesterday that we were eating Mom’s strawberry cake on the terrace, the sun was shining, and this song was playing on the radio … those days, they sparkled like gold! We can see just how far away that “yesterday” really is by watching our children grow. And just yesterday we were still tossing them into the air with laughter – another yesterday.
Time is … well, what is time, really? A dimension? A measure of entropy? In any case, it is no illusion; biology proves this both through evolution and on an individual level: Virtually everything that lives, follows its chronobiology – the seasons, the alternation of day and night, the rhythms of breath, heart, and neurons.
At the same time, we experience it subjectively. Sometimes it stretches on and simply refuses to pass – for example, Monday through Friday. Then again, vacations, weekends, and that fantastic evening just rush right past us.
There’s so much that could be said here, but we don’t have time. So we won’t approach the topic philosophically (though that would be interesting too), but rather with a focus on mind and body. Perhaps you could start with the text ▸ The Fourth Dimension by Nora Schultz.
